Asian Fusion Cuisine @ Mulan Restaurant

We hosted a group of our friends yesterday who came to Flushing for visit. We read great reviews about Mulan Restaurant and decided to host them there. Price : Affordable. It cost about $30 per person. Quality : We ordered ala carte instead of the pre-fixed lunch menu. We ordered the two dishes of small platter (pork belly and champagne chicken), Mulan Pepper Steak, Wu-Bsi Ribs, Chilean Sea Bass, Mushroom with Baby Bok Choy, Napolen Tofu and Fried Rice. Every dish was delicious. We enjoyed the ambience, service and the food. Thumbs up for Mulan. Store layout : We were intrigued by the modern and chic restaurant decor. The staff were very attentive and professional. It is located at the second level of Queens Crossing.  " Wu-Bsi Ribs were tender and flavoursome that every one enjoyed the ribs immensely." "A must try! Chilean Sea Bass was delicious. The fish had a crispy crust and the soft and tender inside." " Mulan Pepper Steak...

Stir-fry Lobster with Garlic @ No.1 East Restaurant

While we were trying to find the famous lamb stew in Flushing, we ended up at No.1 East Restaurant instead. Apparently, this was the first restaurant we visited that offered combo meals. We chose a combo meal for two that comprised  stir-fry Lobster with Garlic , three-cup chicken , hot and sour soup , and Mapo Tofu . Price : The combo meal cost less than $40 for two. It was value for money as it included a lobster dish. Quality : The lobster was fresh and meaty. Fried with garlic, the lobster dish was then so-so. Store layout : The restaurant was located along Main Street right after the Flushing Public Library. It is a simple restaurant with attentive staff. We had a table beside the window, where we watched people busying whilst dining.  "The lobster tasted fresh and overall taste was so-so." Where : No.1 East Restaurant, 41-27 Main Street Tel : 718-460-8686 Website : NA Overall rating : 2.5/5

Shin Ramen with Fish Ball @ Sago Cafe [Closed]

Price : Approximately $6. Fairly expensive.  Quality : Shin Ramen with fish balls is served with egg in Sago Cafe 's broth, topped with scallion. In fact, it tasted more like cooking a packet of Shin Hot and Spicy ramen with egg and fish balls. The fish balls were stuffed with minced meat. If you like to have a high-class instant noodles, you may want to order this. Otherwise, you can cook it yourself at home. Forgettable. Store layout : The store was strategically located diagonally across the Main Street Subway Station. There are two doors in Sago - the first door was the entrance and the other was an order window for takeouts. The cafe was always full of people during hot summers - who either dined in or ordered takeouts. You might have to wait if you craved for a cold drink at Sago Cafe. Though the staff were very efficient, they were also unfriendly and rude. "This cafe was always crowded. If you were able to get a seat, you should also get a lottery ticke...

Nabeyaki @ West Udon [Closed]

It has been some time since we last ate Japanese food at West Udon . The last time we had was Oyaku Don. We wanted to try something different today and decided to try Nabeyaki. Price : Affordable. Enough for one. Quality : The udon had a very nice texture. The clear broth was mouth-watering. It was light and did not contain any MSG. I loved the Tempura Prawn too.  In mathematical terms, Udon + Clear Soup Base + Tempura Prawn = Nabeyaki = Superb!! Store layout : The restaurant had a typical Japanese layout concept with wooden furniture and paper lamps. It had a warm setting that you feel very comfortable dining at the restaurant. The store was strategically located along Union Street and Northern Blvd.  "look at the delicious noodles, and tempura prawns... Omg... I cannot stand looking at it without salivating." Where : West Udon, 137-80 Northern Blvd Tel : 718-359-2324 Website : NA Overall rating : 4/5

Young Chow Fried Rice @ Joes Shanghai Restaurant

Enclaved in the tranquil 37th Ave, Joe's Shanghai is one of the longest running and popular Chinese restaurant in Flushing Queens. I happened to hear very good reviews from friends and decided to check out the place.  Price : Priced at around $8, you can have a decent meal for one. Quality : The presentation of the fried rice did not match the taste of the dish. The dish had ham, egg and prawn as part of their ingredients. It was salty. Nah, miss it. Forgettable. In the end, we drank lots of water and tea to quench our thirst. Store layout : A montage of pictures taken with famous celebrities will greet you when you enter the restaurant. The staff will hand you a queue number. The restaurant is always crowded and people will usually queue outside the restaurant. There are at least three rows of tables. Their staff understand English and are polite and attentive.   "the amount of fried rice is best shared with two persons." "although the ingre...

Silver Anchovies with Preserved Turnip Omelet @ Corner 28 [Moved]

The picture in the menu makes the omelet looked so simple and unappealing. We took the plunge and ordered the omelet. When the dish came, we all nodded simultaneously and said, “it is delicious!!!” Price : A little expensive for an egg, anchovies and preserved turnips.  Quality : Excellent quality. The preserved turnips gave the crunchy and salty flavor. Together with the egg and anchovies, the preserved turnips brought out the tastes of anchovies and egg. A simple dish yet we enjoyed the egg at every bite. Excellent! Store layout : Corner 28 at the second level has a more zen look. We savored every grain of rice while enjoyed the wonderful view of Main Street, Flushing. "It is about 12" in diameter!" Where : 40-28 Main Street Tel : 718-886-6628 Website : NA Overall rating: 3.5/5

Hot pot @ Little Lamb Family Restaurant

Little Lamb Family Restaurant is located at the tip of Main Street adjacent to Northern Blvd. A simple, air conditioned restaurant is always crowded. Customers would stand outside the restaurant just to wait for their queue numbers to be called. The restaurant serves hot pot or steamboat with two kinds of soup base – spicy or non-spicy. You may have a pot of spicy or non-spicy soup base or a pot with spicy and non-spicy soup base. Hot pot is best eaten during a cold day especially during winter. The hot broth will warm your body. Even during the summer, having hot pot in an air-conditioned restaurant may be fine. Price : Reasonably affordable. It depends on how much food you order. For the two of us, we spent around $30 per person for the whole meal. Quality : The items were freshly prepared. We ordered a lot of greens, fish and red meat. The iced tofu though seems to be a popular item, did not suit us. Instead, we preferred the silken tofu to iced tofu. :P The bubble...

Fried Rice with Dried Scallops and Egg White @ Corner 28 [Moved]

Rice is the staple food for most people in Southeast Asia. It is no different for me. We decided to try out a Fried Rice at Corner 28 . We chose Fried Rice with Dried Scallops and Egg White. Price : Value for Money. Priced at $12, you can share with at least three persons as one decent meal. Quality : I love the way the chef cooked the fried rice. I could vividly see each grain of the pearly white rice. The pine nuts were roasted. The egg whites were well fried from a master because the eggs had even tear-like shapes. The use of fresh ingredients like scallops and oil made the rice even more delicious. We enjoyed the dish very much. Fried rice, I’ll be back!!! Store layout : The restaurant at the second level has a more Zen look. We savoured every grain of rice while enjoyed the wonderful view of Main Street, Flushing.  "You can clearly see the pine nuts, rice grains and dried scallops." "Look at the mountainous heap of fried rice!! If you are a...
