Bubble Tea @ Chao Zhou Restaurant [Closed]

Flushing, Queens has a unique phenomenon – that is, bubble tea is sold in almost every Asian cafes and restaurants. Without a thought, I decided to give bubble tea a try and see what makes them so popular in such a competitive market.

Price: Fairly affordable. It is priced around $3.50 for a regular-sized green tea with tapioca balls.

Quality: Chao Zhou Restaurant gave a generous portion of medium-sized tapioca balls. The tapioca balls were chewy and moderately sweet. The green tea was moderately sweet. The drink quenched your thirst under the hot sun while you chew on the tapioca balls.

Store layout: Located directly opposite of the Flushing Main Library, the restaurant is very popular food joint. It is always crowded during the weekends. A simple arrangement of furniture makes the restaurant neat and pleasant. You will be greeted by a Terracotta solder at the entrance.

Originated from Jiangxi province of Southern China, the three-cup chicken (三杯鸡) is a popular in Taiwan. The three-cup chicken uses three cups of different sauces to cook the chicken. There are two versions to the origins of three-cup chicken. Bubble tea is not uncommon at Flushing, Queens. Bakeries, restaurants, cafes and even small food joints alike were selling bubble tea. Bubble tea is originated in Taiwan in the 1980s. I decided to try out one of the bubble tea joints – Sago Tea Café in the neighbourhood. Other than serving iced beverages, Sago Café also served food and snacks. Price : Reasonably affordable. Quality : The spicy chicken strips with lemon juice were tasty. It was a great snack to share with a group of your friends. Store layout : The store was strategically located diagonally across the Main Street Subway Station. There are two doors in Sago - the first door was the entrance and the other was an order window for takeouts. Another frozen yogurt chain store, Red Mango, opened along Roosevelt Ave at about one minute’s walk from its competitor – Pinkberry . A different concept from Pinkberry, Red Mango has more seats for customers to rest and enjoy the refreshing frozen yogurt. In comparison, Pinkberry , with a narrow stall space, is more suitable for takeaways. Founded in 2002 in South Korea, the giant Frozen Yogurt chain entered the US market in July 2007 and is the first retailer of frozen yogurt to receive the National Yogurt Association’s Live and Active Culture Seal.
